The
story of Hitman Online is a fiction. So is the concept of such online auction site where users can post and
bid on assassination contracts anonymously. (Link
to the temporary site used in this film: Note that many links won't work
on this site as it was created only
for the purpose of filming)
However,
the central theme of this screenplay (crime on Internet)
was inspired by the real event, which took place in Germany:
A cannibal was charged with manslaughter.
Shockingly, this cannibal found his victim by placing an
advert on Internet which read 'Seeking a volunteer willing to be killed
and eaten' (Link to original

After
the screenplay was written, it was discovered that even
though the idea of such website seemed far-fetched at times,
nothing is impossible in this world. On February 12th
2004, in South Korea, police arrested a college student who
offered assassination services by operating a
'killer-for-hire' web site. (Link to original

Another
dimension of the screenplay was the assumption that Hitman
Online belongs to an alternative storage network where
people can communicate anonymously and surveillance free.
Eventually, writer was able to back that up by facts as
research showed that attempts to create such network is
already pursued by many projects (Link to one of
these project’s website)
